 "BPA and PVC" 2009-10-26

By S. Arundel (SoCal)

If you are concerned about BPA (bisphenol-A), a chemical recently ordered removed from baby bottles and other products, and linked to hormone disruption and other health problems, don't buy the polycarbonate jar. It contains BPA and we know that BPA leaches into hot or acidic foods, and also the plastic breaks down under heat (eg. when being washed) to release more BPA.

If you are concerned about PVC (polyvinyl chloride), a plastic that is toxic and also shouldn't be used for food preparation, steer clear of the lid on this blender. Apparently all Kitchenaid blender lids are made of it, and it says so right on the lid.

If you are NOT concerned about these things, you'd better get yourself over to two websites that I, as a new mom and concerned consumer, have found invaluable. The first is from the Environmental Working Group, a bunch of scientists who research safety of consumer products at [...]. The second one is very explanatory and perhaps better for the layperson, and geared towards families. It's called [...]

Please buy consciously! Both of these chemicals build up in your system...your body doesn't eliminate them, and they get transmitted to the next generation through breast milk.

Hope this was helpful.

 "Great Blender!" 2009-10-24

By Momma of three

My old blender was fine-or so I thought-but I wanted one that could hold more. This KitchenAid blows my last blender out of the water! It blends, chops, purees, liquefies, and mixes in a blink of an eye! I am very happy with my purchase-thanks Amazon!

 "I love this blender!" 2009-10-21

By S. Cohen (California USA)

This blender is well designed, powerful, easy to clean, easy to use and attractive enough to leave out on the counter. What more can you ask for? I have used this blender more times in the few weeks that I have had it than I used the old blender all last year. I am very impressed with the design of the carafe -- it's so easy to use and easy to clean. I also appreciate that the face of the blender and buttons don't have crevices to fill up with uncleanable gunk. I'm very happy with this purchase. I did debate between buying a color and buying the stainless version. I decided to save the money and also enjoy the pop of color on the counter. I'm glad I did that and functionally, the blenders are identical.

 "works good, looks good" 2009-10-15

By H. Hunter (Los Angeles, CA)

I like this blender so far. It's great for smoothies. You definitely need some liquid to get things moving in there, but it chops, purees, etc just fine. Also great for homemade pesto!

It is a bit noisy, but not bad. And it's a very good looking appliance! I ordered it in blue.

 "weak!" 2009-10-15

By Betty

The blender seemed good at first but the washer broke on it ~10-20 uses in. We were only using it to make fruit smoothies and always had liquid in with the frozen fruit. There doesn't seem to be a way to fix or replace it so now we are back on the market looking for a new blender.

 "High quality as expected" 2009-10-08

By Dana Van Horn (Moab, UT USA)

I used my mom's 1966 (wedding present) Oster blender until about 5 years ago. I purchased a new Oster to replace it. It died recently. I bought the "retro" Oster beehive blender from Amazon.com and it literally fell apart days after use. I returned it to Amazon.com for a refund and bought this blender. It is everything I wanted and more. Great functions like the "crush ice" and the pulse mode. Heavy base, easy to clean, dishwasher safe, tight fitting lid. It has the quality that you would expect from a KitchenAid Product. I own a stand mixer, hand mixer, food processor, and now the blender. Worth every dime.

 "Totally disappointing experience" 2009-10-07

By C. D. French (Sauratown Mtn, NC)

I bought this blender because the information on the box said it was of commercial-use quality and I would need a blender several times a day to puree foods for a dysphagia diet. With the very first use there was a problem with food chunks clumping around the walls of the convex curves of the container and not moving into the blades. By continually adding liquid and using a spatula every few seconds, I finally was able to force a blend of small chunks and pudding-like consistency, but this is not pureed. I tried every setting, pulse and leaving it on for a minute at a time, but never achieved a puree consistency of anything attempted.

It is easy to clean, thus the one star. Also, the base is heavy-duty and it did not skitter across the counter-top. It did, though the owner's manual said it would not do this, make a nasty noise and jerk when starting up. Many times, it sounded as if it were running at high speed and the blades might not be turning. Often the food did not move at all while the blades were whirring--the food was out of reach along the walls. It was quite noisy, as much as my old blender.

My 1970's Hamilton Beach has begun smoking and slowing down when used, and this was to replace it, but after an hour of failures to puree anything completely, I washed the KitchenAid and put it back into the box and will get a refund. I'm back to searching for something to puree 5-6 meals a day, but nothing with KitchenAid name on it, unless I see a substantial improvement on design.

"Powerful and easy to clean!" 2009-09-27

I've had this blender for over a year now and it still works very well. The blade is very powerful and it is very easy to clean. You can just add a bit of water, blend and rinse out! I've made everything from smoothies to soups in this blender. The glass is quite heavy but durable, so it's ok. The Kitchenaid brand is reliable and it compliments other Kitchenaid items in my kitchen!

 "Best Belender So Far" 2009-09-21

By Hawkman (United States)

This had great ratings at Cooks Illustrated, which I happen to trust more than Consumer Reports when it comes to kitchen gadgets (it wasn't at the top of the list on CR). This is the best blender I've had. The jar itself is a tough plastic with the blade assembly attached to the bottom. You do no longer have to unscrew the bottom to clean the blades. In fact cleaning is simple... put hot water and a dab of soap and turn on the Stir mode for about 15 seconds. Rinse and you are done. It does a great job at smoothies with frozen fruit and ice. There are different settings to use for different purposes and they are explained in the small book that comes with it. These sell for $99 in stores and you can get a 20% off coupon for Bed Bath and Beyond if you wanted it locally. It comes with KitchenAid's 1 Year replacement warranty and they are really great to deal with. I've also owned a Blentec but it was very loud and very expensive. I think this is great for the price and it isn't too loud.

 "kitchen aid ideas" 2009-09-16

By Diane Murdock (brier wa)

the kitchen aid 'blender' works ok but the 'jar' isn't big enough and the lid/glass insert leaks. filling the jar about 1/4-1/3 full will allow use of the 'liquify' speed without overflow. the glass insert leaks and the design, plus the rubber lid facilitates the leaks. an option is to seal the insert to the lid but this is a permanent move. the jar needs to be 12-18 oz larger for proper use. speeds 4-5 cannot be used if jar is over 1/2 full.

overall, the blender is acceptable. there is a larger blender on the market but more expensive and subject to failure.

I knew the jar was smaller than desired but it was the largest I could find reasonably.

"Powerful and easy to clean!" 2009-09-27

By Boston_Mel (Boston, MA)

 "Very Good Blender" 2009-09-14

By Brooksy

I purchased this blender primarily for making smoothies. The ice crushing feature works very well. Smoothies come out with a great texture and there is very little effort involved with making them. I've also used it to make protein drinks. I was very pleased with the mixing power. It's a bit loud, which is why the rating is 4 stars. If you want price and performance this is a good purchase.

"Happiness is a new blender" 2009-09-06

By Lowell Sather (Spokane,WA USA)

The blender is everything they promised it would be. Retiring our 25 year old blender (if you could call it that) was easy. Good price, good product.
